dly()

dly(input, samples, feedback)

Category

Delay / FX

Description

Short alias of delay(). It processes an input signal through the first delay line only.

dly() is useful for a single compact delay expression. It is not the recommended spelling when several independent delay lines are needed in one formula.

Arguments

Typical Values

Delay time is in samples. Feedback/mix should usually stay below about 0.8 to avoid runaway feedback.

Example

dly(lp(pwm(0.5*X, 0.34), 0.16, 0.12), 900, 0.18)

Several Delay Lines

// Recommended:
delay(saw(X), 700, 0.20) + delay1(sin(X), 1400, 0.16)

// Not recommended for independent delay memories:
dly(saw(X), 700, 0.20) + dly(sin(X), 1400, 0.16)

Notes

Practical recommendation: document/use delay() for formulas needing more than one delay instance. Treat dly() as a short alias for one delay line only.

dly() and delay() use the same first delay line. Numbered delay1..delay3 variants are useful when several separate delays are needed in one formula.
