notch()

notch(input, cutoff, width)

Category

Filter

Description

Notch filter that removes a moving band of frequencies while leaving the rest of the signal intact. It is useful for sweeping pads, talk-like motion, and spatial animated tones.

Arguments

Typical Values

Start with cutoff around 0.03 to 0.30 and width around 0.10 to 0.70. Slow modulation works especially well.

Example

notch(saw(X)+0.6*tri(0.5*X), 0.06+0.18*param(2), 0.18+0.42*param(3))

Notes

Notch filtering can create strong movement without the obvious muffling of a low-pass. It is a good option when you want motion but still need top-end detail.
