posarp()

posarp()

Category

Other - Arpeggiator Time Source

Description

Returns the current sample position of the active arpeggiator run. Use it when a formula should shape the whole riff or phrase instead of restarting the movement on every arpeggiated note.

Arguments

No arguments.

Example

moog(saw(X), 0.04+0.30*exp(-posarp()/48000), 0.25)
0.25*attack(30)*release(1200)*(0.6+0.4*sin(posarp()/9000))*saw(X)

Notes

When the arpeggiator is off, posarp() returns the same time value as pos(). When the arpeggiator is on, pos() still follows each generated note, while posarp() follows the continuous arpeggiator timeline.

posarp() is classified as an Other/time-source function. It can drive phrase envelopes and modulation, but it is not itself an envelope generator.

posarp() uses the same 44.1k reference timing domain as pos(), attack(), release(), fromtoin(), and sfromtoin(). Host sample-rate changes and oversampling do not make the movement run faster or slower.
