Envelope / Control
Returns MIDI note velocity with a logarithmic response curve, normalized to the 0.0 to 1.0 range. It is useful when linear velo() feels too hard or too abrupt for amplitude, brightness, or modulation depth.
Internally Syntropy uses a 128-step lookup table for MIDI velocities, with interpolation between values. This keeps the response musical without calculating log() inside the audio formula for every sample.
velolog() returns 0.0 for velocity 0 and 1.0 for velocity 127. Medium and lower velocities are raised compared with a linear curve, which often matches perceived loudness more naturally.
sin(X)*attack(40)*release(2400)*(0.15+0.85*velolog())
moog(saw(X), 0.03+0.28*velolog(), 0.25)
Use velo() when you want exact linear MIDI velocity. Use velolog() when velocity should feel more natural for loudness or timbre.
